How to Stop Binge Drinking

Saturday, October 18th, 2008

Put simply, binge drinking means drinking just to get drunk–an unrestrained and self-destructive drinking bout.
A seriously intoxicated individual engaging in an episode of binge drinking will shirk obligations, waste money, and take part in many other types of harmful activities, which may potentially bring him or her into contact with emergency services or police.

Binge drinking is now a problem in many western countries, even though individual countries have different tolerance levels of binge drinkers. In the U.S Stricter standards of four drinks for women five for men at a time is considered binge drinking.

Having 11 or more drinks in one sitting is how the United Kingdom defines binge drinking. This is more than double what is considered binge drinking in the USA, yet binge drinking in the United Kingdom is now so serious, the British Government is about to bring in measures to tackle the problem.

What is the Issue?

Often disguised as recreation, binge drinking, or heavy drinking, is irresponsible Binge drinkers are a danger to themselves and their entire community.

Risks to the binge drinker include:

Getting into trouble with the police
Alcohol poisoning; a severe and potentially fatal physical reaction to an alcohol overdose
Missing work
Not using protection when having sex

Risks to people around binge drinkers:

Being pushed, hit or assaulted
Having property damaged
Being insulted or humiliated

Why do people do it?:

To get drunk
Culture of alcohol consumption
Stress

Do you have a binge-drinking problem? Do you recognise any of these harmful and destructive behaviours in your own life:

Are you drinking more heavily and more often?
Are you drinking to get drunk
Is your drinking affecting your work or upsetting your partner or family?

What can be done?

Hypnotherapy Plymouth and NPL can have provide long-lasting results for binge drinking. Negative input is a common thing programmed into most people but it can be controlled and turned into something positive. Hypnotherapy puts the mind in a state that will accept the NLP re-programming more readily, so NLP and hypnotherapy combined are a very effective combination.

Using a blend of NLP and Hypnotherapy Plymouth, you will be able to re-program binge drinking behaviour within a matter of hours. There are many ways to stop binge drinking, it is up to you to find which way works for you. In either case the result is identical - changing your habitual self-destructive “drink for the purpose of becoming intoxicated” habits to pleasurable “have a few drinks and a good time” ones.

It’s a matter of self-control, and there are neuro-linguistic and Plymouth Hypnotherapy techniques that create a sequence of thinking that get the brain to move from the thought of drinking to excess to the thought of just having a moderate amount of drinks and enjoying yourself.

Driving Test Nerves - Driving You Mad?

Saturday, October 18th, 2008

For many people the thought of taking their driving test can be worse than the actual test itself, it is usually the fear of what will happen on the day itself which brings on an attack of anxiety. The more nervous you are, the more likely you are to make mistakes.

How do we deal with it?

Most people who experience anxiety would describe themselves as almost feeling out of control, all of a sudden physical symptoms come rushing into them.

A list of these issues are:

- Heart palpitations
- Sweating
- Choking and/or feeling sick
- Dizziness or unsteadyness
- Feeling of detachment
- Hot flushes or chills

If you feel anxious only in response to a specific situation it is called situational anxiety. Situational anxiety is different from everyday fear in that it tends to be out of proportion. If you feel apprehension about taking your driving test then you have situational anxiety.

Anxiety can be brought on merely by thinking about taking your driving test. When you feel distressed about what might happen when you get behind the wheel with the examiner sitting next to you, and watching your every movement, you are experiencing what is called anticipatory anxiety. Sometimes this anxiety becomes intense enough to be called panic.

Well you are not alone millions of people get driving test nerves before they take their test.

So what can you do? You have been told by your driving instructor that you drive well, and are capable of passing, but you still feel in a state of panic?

You have to get rid of those feelings so you can feel relaxed, focused and confident during your driving exam.

You can do this by using Hypnotherapy Plymouth which will help you prepare mentally and stay focused and relaxed before the driving test, as well as during it.

At Hypnotherapy Plymouth we use breathing techniques to calm you down, relaxation exercises, visualization techniques using your imagination to practice the driving test in your mind, seeing yourself driving calmly and in control and passing with confidence.
